Top Reasons to Live in the South Sound
The South Sound is a growing region located just south of Seattle. It encompasses the cities of Tacoma, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Puyallup, and surrounding southern Puget Sound area.
While Seattle is a wonderful city and a fantastic place to live in its own right, some people prefer a less busy and less expensive place to live. Many of those people have chosen the South Sound region. There are many reasons to live in the South Sound (and it’s not just the lower housing costs!)
The beautiful scenery. From Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, the Glacial Heritage Preserve in Thurston County, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, there is no shortage of breathtaking scenery in the area. The South Sound is an outdoor enthusiasts dream.
Climate. The mild climate of the Pacific Northwest has been drawing people from around the nation and world. And despite its reputation as a rainy place, in reality, the area gets less rainfall per year than New York City.
Proximity to Seattle. The South Sound region may be away from the hustle and bustle of Seattle, but it’s still only a short drive away. It’s also close to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Activities. There are a number of attractions in the South Sound area, including the Tacoma Art Museum, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, and LeMay – America’s Car Museum. Puyallup also hosts the annual Puyallup Fair, the largest state fair in Washington attracting over one million people a year. Tacoma, the largest city in the region, hosts three professional teams, including the Tacoma Rainiers, the top minor league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
